Jackson County Extends State of Emergency Due to Expected Winter Storm

February 25, 2013

Due to inclement weather that is expected later today and tomorrow, County Executive Mike Sanders has announced that he is extending the State of Emergency that was declared for Jackson County during last week’s winter storm.

The State of Emergency will now run through Wednesday morning. At that time, county staff will evaluate conditions in the area and decide if a further extension is warranted.

With heavy snow and hazardous travel conditions expected to set in late tonight and early tomorrow, County Executive Sanders is urging citizens to stay in their homes and off of the roads. Sanders announced earlier today that all Jackson County Government offices will be closed on Tuesday, February 26.

The Independence/Eastern Jackson County Emergency Operations Center is fully activated and will remain active until all threats from the weather event have passed.
