Jackson County Parks & Rec Independence Day At Missouri Town 1855
June 23, 2012
Let your celebration of Independence Day journey back to the 1850’s as Jackson County Parks & Recreation’s Missouri Town 1855 presents its annual Independence Day Celebration. Appropriately costumed interpreters will share how residents of antebellum Jackson County observed this important date. Beginning with the raising of the flag in the morning, a variety of activities will bring this meaningful period of our history to life. Children can participate in traditional games and become part of history as they actually sign a copy of the Declaration of Independence. New this year is a presentation of an 1850’s picnic. Visitors look on as Missouri Town residents celebrate with a pot-luck picnic, complete with period-appropriate dishes and food. Ongoing interpretive demonstrations will highlight the similarities and differences of how we observe the holiday today. The whole family can join the re-enactors and march through town in the annual July 4th parade. Have fun and learn about our past at Missouri Town 1855’s Independence Day Celebration Monday, July 4, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.!
