JC Sheriff’s Office Receives DOD’s Outstanding Military
Sept. 22, 2011
On August 26th, 2011, Sheriff Mike Sharp and the Jackson County, MO Sheriff’s Office were recognized by the Department of Defense’s Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR)! The recognition, by way of the Missouri Outstanding Military Support Award, was presented to Sheriff Mike Sharp during the ESGR Annual Planning and Awards Conference at Chase Park Plaza in St. Louis, MO.
The ESGR is a Department of Defense Agency whose mission is to “Gain and maintain employer support for Guard and Reserve service by recognizing outstanding support, increasing awareness of the law, and resolving conflicts through mediation.” It is described as being in place to provide a bridge between employers and their employees that serve in the Reserve components.
Deputy Adam Zarrillo, a full-time deputy sheriff who holds the rank of Staff Sergeant in the 414th Military Police Unit of the US Army Reserve, nominated Jackson County, MO Sheriff’s Office to receive the Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award in 2010 for providing exceptional support and personnel policies that are above and beyond to its employees who are deployed as part of the National Guard and Military Reserve. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office was selected as a semi-finalist for the award, the highest in a series of employer recognition awards issued by the Department of Defense. Only fifteen of such awards are issued annually.
Then, in July of 2011, Deputy Zarrillo was notified that the Jackson County, MO Sheriff’s Office won the Missouri Outstanding Military Support Award and was pleased to be present with Sheriff Sharp when accepting the award on behalf of the Sheriff’s Office.
“The members of the Sheriff’s Office that serve as reservists not only protect the citizens and guests of Jackson County, MO on a full-time basis at home, but they care enough to continue their service as a Reserve. I am proud to accept this award on behalf of the Sheriff’s Office, and we are appreciative for the service the men and women of the military provide every day,” said Sheriff Mike Sharp.
This is the second consecutive award presented to Sheriff Mike Sharp by the ESGR.
