Jean Peter-Baker Appointed as Jackson County New Prosecutor

County Executive Mike Sanders appointed Jean Peter-Baker as Jackson County Prosecutor. Judge Charles E. Atwell gave the oath of office.

Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders has appointed Jean Peters-Baker as Jackson County Prosecutor. Sanders made the announcement at a press conference this afternoon at the downtown Jackson County Courthouse.

Peters-Baker was sworn in by Charles E. Atwell, Presiding Judge of the 16th Judicial Circuit.

“After a thorough, open and transparent process, I am confident we have appointed the best candidate available to one of the premier legal positions in the Midwest,” said Sanders. “Jean brings a great deal of experience, professionalism and passion to this office. Her character, commitment and work ethic will serve the citizens of Jackson County well.

Peters-Baker will fulfill the term of James F. Kanatzar who was recently sworn in as a judge on the 16th Judicial Circuit bench. The current term for Jackson County Prosecutor ends on December 31, 2012.

Peters-Baker previously worked in the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office for 14 years. During her time in the prosecutor’s office, she served as a trial team leader, chief warrant officer and assistant prosecuting attorney. She left the office last year after being elected to the Missouri State House of Representatives, serving the 39th District.

Peters-Baker received her law degree from University of Missouri-Kansas City Law School in 1998 and earned a Master of Science in Public Administration from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1995.
