Brent Miller, Chief of Lake Lotawana Police ~ SCAM ALERT

February 22, 2014

NewsDesk@lstribune.net

Chief of Police Brent Miller wants to remind citizens again about the importance of locking their vehicles. We had four thefts of valuables, several expensive losses, from vehicles that were unlocked. None were forced entries.

Please remember to always remove all valuables, especially phones, cameras, and fire arms from your vehicles overnight, and make sure they are locked.

And there is a new SCAM ALERT for the area. There are reports of calls purporting to be from KCP&L informing residents that they are behind on their bill and their service will be disconnected unless they make an immediate payment with a credit card.

Never give your credit information over the phone. And no legitimate business will ask you to buy a prepaid money card to make a payment. If there is any doubt, hang up, get the number from the phone book or the company’s website and speak directly to customer service.
