Chief Brent Miller
Lake Lotawana Police Department
The Lake Lotawana Police Department would like to remind citizens to lock and secure all vehicle doors and windows as well as their homes and garage doors. We have confirmed information from another local agency that there is a group of people targeting the whole KC Metro area, both Kansas and Missouri, for residential burglaries, garage door burglaries, stolen autos, and thefts from vehicles. This group is targeting unlocked and unsecure residences and autos. The suspects are known but there is not yet enough evidence to file charges so they are still at large.
In the past week our Police Department has responded to a stolen vehicle, a theft from a motor vehicle, and a theft from an open garage. These incidents have occurred in the overnight hours, usually after 10 p.m. but not reported until the following morning. If you see any suspicious vehicles or people, please contact police immediately as it might help to apprehend the criminals that are committing these crimes. If you are unsure whether you should call, our motto is "It's better to be called and not needed, than needed and not called". We have officers on duty 24/7 to assist this community.
After 4:30 p.m. please call 816-524-4300 or call 9-1-1 and your call will be answered by the Jackson County Sheriff's Office Dispatch Center. They will quickly dispatch an officer to your location.
