LAW ENFORCEMENT “ON TRACK” TO BUILD STRONG FAMILIES!
April 9, 2012
Thursday, April 12, 1:30 p.m Kansas Speedway, Village West
April Child Abuse Prevention Month
The Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Department and the Kansas Speedway are hosting Law Enforcement “On Track” to Prevent Child Abuse to promote April as Child Abuse Prevention Month. Law Enforcement from many agencies will be represented. Fully marked patrol units will be lined up in the pit area. Blue wristbands will be handed to each officer by children and their parents after a short program, asking officers to “help protect children from abuse.”
Sheriff Don Ash will wave the checkered flag and all units will activate their emergency equipment. After a brief moment, he will wave the flag again and officers will turn off their sirens, but keep all lights on. This will symbolize all officers working together to prevent abuse.
The Lee’s Summit Police Department will send two vehicles to the event including a 2012 Chevy Tahoe and the department’s Dodge Charger from the D.A.R.E. program.
In addition to the Kansas Speedway event, the Lee’ s Summit Police Department is partnering with LS Cares to offer parenting classes for the community. The “Love and Logic” program is offered several times throughout the year at different locations. As part of the class, parents are given a copy of “Computer Cop”, a software package which allows parents to monitor their children’s internet activity. In addition to the Love and Logic classes, LS Cares offers several other parenting classes aimed at building stronger families in our community.
