Lee’s Summit 2017 Citizen of the Year: Mr. Laurence Pressly
June 9, 2017
Mayor Randy Rhoads has selected Mr. Laurence Pressly as the 2017 Citizen of the Year for the Truman Heartland Community Foundation and the Missouri Municipal League Civic Leadership Award.
Mr. Laurence Pressly, a life-long Lee’s Summit resident, has served the community and region in numerous ways.
Mr. Pressly has served the Lee’s Summit community in several civic positions over the past 50 plus years. In the mid 1960’s he was appointed by Mayor Ralph Powell to the Lee’s Summit Street Planning Committee followed by an appointment to the Planning Commission. Expanding his civic commitment, Mr. Pressly was elected as a Lee’s Summit Alderman for two terms.
Following his term in elected office he then served on the Lee’s Summit Board of Zoning and Adjustments, the Lee’s Summit Industrial Development Authority, and the Lee’s Summit Economic Development Council utilizing his business acumen and experience to carefully examine issues and decisions to benefit the Lee’s Summit community and its residents.
“Individuals get involved in the community for various reasons, some are seeking recognition, but occasionally you encounter someone that does something simply because a job is there to be done and that’s indicative of Laurence. He needs no fanfare.” said Mayor Randy Rhoads.
In December 2016, he was presented with a proclamation from Mayor Randy Rhoads for his years of civic service to the City of Lee’s Summit and most recently, Mr. Pressly was recognized as a distinguished alumnus and inducted into the Lee’s Summit High School Hall of Fame during the 2016-2017 school year.
Please help congratulate Laurence for his commitment to Lee’s Summit.
