Lee’s Summit Art Festival Relocates

March 2, 2013

Art is excited to announce the 2013 Summit Art Festival.  There are many exciting new changes happening this year…we have a new name, new branding and new location.

You have known us in the last 5 years as the Longview Art & World Music Festival. We are proud to announce that as of 2013 we are now known as Summit Art Festival.

Location is the biggest change; Summit Art Festival will be held in Historic Downtown Lee’s Summit, MO.  With a population of almost 94,000 people and land area of 65 square miles, Lee’s Summit, Missouri, is the sixth largest city in the state.

Despite a rapid growth spurt in the past 25 years, Downtown Lee’s Summit has remained the heart of the community. Downtown Lee’s Summit is a 2010 Great American Main Street Award® winner by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Located less than 5 miles from our previous location the New Longview Business district you will now find our event nestled in the Central Business District of Lee’s Summit.  We are excited to partner with the Downtown Lee’s Summit organization to put on our 6th Annual event.

Historic Downtown Lee’s Summit is known for its many locally owned shops, boutiques, fabulous restaurants and vibrant nightlife. New residential lofts and adjacent historic neighborhoods also make Downtown Lee’s Summit an excellent place to call home. A unique combination of preservation of history and place, with progressive attitudes and entrepreneurship, make Downtown Lee’s Summit the perfect location for our fine art event.

As part of the new location Summit Art has adapted new branding and a new name.  The decision to change the event name from the Longview Art & World Music Festival to Summit Art Festival was based on the venue change and to emphasize our focus on the fine art component of the event. We will continue to have an amplified main stage and two non amplified music locations with appropriate music that promotes the fine art atmosphere, but this is truly an Art Festival and we wanted the new name to represent that.

The event is organized by Summit Art, presented by Saint Luke’s East Hospital with help from the Downtown Lees Summit organization and made possible through a 100 percent volunteer effort.

Highlights of the 2013 Summit Art Festival will include a main stage, non-amplified small music venues, Lee’s Summit R-7 Schools, grades 7 – 12 art pavilion, “Kidz Zone” interactive art area , Summit Art pavilion, Lees’ Summit R-7 Schools Chalk Art or similar art activity.

The festival will be the first weekend in October, the 4th, 5th and 6th.
