Lee's Summit attorney Susan "Liz" Van Note, charged in 2012 with two counts of first degree murder of her father and his longtime companion, surrendered herself to the Camden County Sheriff’s Jail on December 17th.

Camden County sources report Ms. Van Note was originally released on October 4th, 2012 on $250,000 cash bond.  The original charges were only for her father’s death and a forgery count.  She was later charged in the death of Sharon Dickinson, her father’s companion.

Ms. Van Note petitioned for a change of venue and proceedings were moved north to Clay County.

While preparing for a defense on the charges of murder, Ms. Van Note has also been defending charges in Probate Court.  Ms. Van Note was originally in control of her father’s estate, but was removed after the criminal charges were filed.

In November of 2012 the Successor Executor to her father’s estate, Michael Dreiling, Jr. filed a petition for the return of monies to the estate, totaling over $272,613. From then until now, several of the attorneys involved withdrew from the case.  Since November 15th this year, Ms. Van Note has taken personal control of her defense on the probate order.

Ms. Van Not had been ordered to return the monies at the beginning of this past summer, and was finally adjudicated to be in contempt on July 1st.  She failed to satisfy the Court even after filing motions on her own behalf.  On December 12th, she was eventually ordered to either return the funds by 10 A.M. on Tuesday December 17thor to report to the Clay County Sherriff for incarceration.

Ms. Van Note filed a motion termed supersedeas bond which is a defendant’s appeal bond wanting to delay payment of a judgment until the appeal is over. That motion has not been considered as yet, but on December 17tha commitment order was filed.

Instead of surrendering in Clay County, Ms. Van Note surrendered back in Camden County, and according to officials, she is now being held on $250,000 “cash bond” “on her original charges of 2 counts of Murder 1st Degree.”

More information on this convoluted case as it becomes available.
