Lee’s Summit, Mo. – On Tuesday 02-02-10 at 11:50 am police communications received a 9-1-1 call from a teenage resident in the 1600 block of NE Whitestone Dr. reporting an intruder. The caller reported hearing the door bell ring several times followed by pounding on a back door. As she went to investigate she was confronted by an unknown white male inside her home. Once the intruder realized someone was home he ran from the residence to a waiting vehicle occupied by another unknown white male. With very clear and precise descriptions of the intruder and vehicle the teenage resident was able to assist police communications with an immediate broadcast to police units on the road.

As the burglary information was being broadcast a detective traveling east on NE Colbern identified the reported vehicle occupied by two white males westbound on Colbern. As the detective turned around the vehicle accelerated and turned northbound on I-470. As the detectives vehicle was unmarked and not equipped as an emergency vehicle, no lights or siren, he continued following at a safe distance to provide a visual for responding patrol cars. The first patrol unit was a Jackson County Sheriff’s deputy who attempted a traffic stop but the vehicle continued to flee and the deputy pursued. The pursuit continued to the area of Bowlin Road just south of US 40 Hwy were the vehicle stopped and both white male subjects fled on foot before being apprehended a short time later without further incident.

Arrested were 22 year old Jeffrey S. Lamping and 22 year old John D. Haun, both from Raytown. Each was charged with Burglary 1st Degree and Fleeing/Resisting Arrest. Their bond was set at $60,000 each and after arraignment both were turned over to the Jackson County detention center.
