Lee’s Summit CARES announces the hiring of Monica Meeks as Prevention Program Coordinator. Meeks joined the Lee’s Summit CARES staff on July 8.
Meeks has more than 20 years of experience in the nonprofit sector. She was the founding Vice President of Youth Volunteer Corps of America, and worked with Kansas City’s Stop Violence Coalition managing character education and bullying prevention programs. During this time she presented trainings on kindness and respect in the workplace.
For five years, she worked in Eastern Jackson County managing health and community enrichment initiatives for StandUp Blue Springs. She has worked with student populations by serving as a volunteer for Kansas City Consensus and the YMCA to promote youth-adult partnerships and engage youth in decision-making. Meeks presently sits on the Community Mission Board for the Blue Springs YMCA.
Meeks will be responsible for implementing the strategic prevention framework in order to reduce substance abuse among youth in the community.
Her duties include overseeing the Drug Free Community Grant and working closely with community sectors to implement prevention strategies. She will also facilitate the Partnership to Prevent Risky Behaviors Task Force and coordinate Party Patrols and Compliance Checks with the Lee’s Summit Police Department.
Meeks and her husband reside in Lee’s Summit.
