Lee’s Summit Fire Department

At a ceremony held this morning in City Hall, the Lee’s Summit Fire Department promoted Paramedic/Specialist Ben Hicks to the rank of Captain via Facetime. Captain Hicks is currently serving his country in Qatar with the 138th Infantry Division of the Missouri National Guard as a 1st Lieutenant.

Thanks to technology, in front of friends, family and coworkers, Captain Hicks recited the oath presented by Chief Rick Poeschl followed by 1st Sergeant Wes Blanscet, a Paramedic/Specialist with LSFD presenting him with his badge. Captain Hicks’ family accepted his new red helmet on his behalf.

Captain Hicks started with the Lee’s Summit Fire Department in 2004, working through the ranks to Paramedic/Specialist and testing for captain prior to his current deployment. Captain Hicks also serves as a Tactical Medic with the Lee’s Summit Police Department’s Emergency Services Squad.   When he returns sometime in early 2018, he will be assigned to the Fire Department’s Training Division.

Congratulations to Captain Ben Hicks! The Lee’s Summit Fire Department is very proud of its members that have and are currently serving in the armed forces of our country.  Thank you for your service.

Outstanding! Way to go, Captain Hicks! Great job on the ceremony, Chief Poeschl & LSFD Staff! Definitely newsworthy.
