Lee's Summit Fly A Flag Days

Lee’s Summit Fly A Flag Days
Lee’s Summit area residents and businesses are invited to show their patriotism by flying the U.S. Flag under a new Rotary program. Lee’s Summit Sunrise Rotary Club will be sponsoring, “Fly a Flag Days” on four national holidays per year.
Phil Richardson, Sunrise Rotary Club President, said he is excited about the Lee's Summit Sunrise Rotary's new Fly a Flag program. He said that local businesses and residents can contact his club to arrange for a United States flag to be placed at their home or business location.  Rotary members will place flags on four holidays each year…Veterans Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day.
Richardson said that the flags will be placed eight or ten feet back from the curb depending on sidewalk location, approximately centered on the home. He said, a
different placement can be arranged if the resident so desires. The flag is American made, 3 x 5 feet in size, with an 8 foot wooden pole. The steel flag holder is 18 inches long and is placed into the soil to hold the pole and flag.
The Fly a Flag program will be paid for with a yearly $50 subscription fee. The fee will cover the cost and maintenance of the flag, flag pole, and holders, plus placement on each of the four holidays. Richardson said the flags will be placed in three to five days in advance of each holiday and removed in two or three days after the holiday.
Richardson said that the Lee’s Summit Sunrise Rotary Club is ten years old and has supported over $450,000 in community service projects during this time. He said any profit made from the Fly a Flag program will help his Sunrise Rotary club fund other worthwhile community projects in the future. In that way, he said, flag subscribers will “win” in two ways…showing patriotism and helping dozens of local service organizations.
This Labor Day you will see many of these flags in your neighbor's yards.  Show your patriotism on these holidays and help Rotary continue to provide volunteer services for Lee's Summit and the world.  To order a flag and be part of the Fly a Flag program send your name, address, and home phone number to: Lee’s Summit Sunrise Rotary, PO Box 1576, Lee’s Summit, MO  64063 or call 816-222-0771.
Lee’s Summit Sunrise Rotary Club meets each Friday for breakfast at the Ambassador Room at John Knox Village, 504 NW Murray Road. Persons wishing to attend a Rotary meeting should contact club president Phil Richardson 816-525-9699 or Dan Hall, club public information chair, 816/246-6353. If you have any questions about this flag program then contact: Cathie Bordner, 816-251-1410, cathiebordner@reeceandnichols.com , or Marian Zajic, 816-536-2077, razmjz@hotmail.com
