Lee's Summit Girl Scouts moving to direct sales for cookies

Jan. 16, 2012

Girls Scouts nationwide are changing the way they sell Girl Scout cookies. In the past, Girl Scouts took preorders, but this year they are taking a direct sales approach, where each troop estimated back in September how many cookies they could sell from November to January. This change gave lots of high hopes and initial orders showed an increase for the area. However, most troops now still have an inventory of cookies they must try to sell before the end of the month.

Just when you thought your New Year’s resolution was safe, Girl Scouts are selling at local businesses at cookie booths during the weekends. The great weather we are having also has Girls Scouts out in neighborhoods. While we do appreciate the local Lee’s Summit merchants that are allowing cookie booths, there are more Girl Scout troops than there are booths available.

Help our local Lee’s Summit Girl Scout troops. To purchase Girl Scout Cookies contact our Cookie Manager, Amanda Beech at amandaka@ckeinc.com or 816-807-6613. Or, call the Lee’s Summit Tribune at 816-524-0061. Cookies are $3.50 per box.

You know you hear those favorite flavors calling out – Thin Mints, Carmel DeLites, Peanut Butter Patties, Thanks-A-Lots, Shortbread, Peanut Butter Sandwich, Lemonades and Shoutouts. Some of you may be saying, “I can’t have sugar, I am diabetic”.

Well, the Shortbreads only have 1 g of sugar per cookie – you can’t find too many other snacks to match that.

Even if you would rather not purchase a box of cookies for yourself, think about buying the box and the Girl Scout troop will donate it to Cookie Share. This is a new program to help send donated cookies to our Armed Services, Hope House, Social Services, Coldwater and many other non-profit organizations.

Thank you for supporting your local Girl Scouts of Lee’s Summit.
