Three local 4th & 5th graders in Lee’s Summit will be traveling with their Jr. Mavs teammates on February 20, 2014 to Fargo, ND for the 29th Annual Squirt International Hockey Tournament. Fargo will host 128, 10U teams from all over North America.

The three players are:

Aidan Kelly - Defenseman - 5th Grade, Woodland Elementary

Andrew Garrison - Forward - 5th Grade, Cedar Creek

Connor Adams - Goalie - 4th Grade, Our Lady of the Presentation

There are 16 players all born 2003 - 2006. Almost all of these players began skating for the Jr. Mavs in 2009 or later.

The players attend schools in Independence, Kansas City, Lee’s Summit, Blue Springs and Grain Valley. All are in 3rd to 5th grade.

The team has two tournament wins: The Kansas Jr. Cup hosted by the Wichita Warriors and the KC Ice Winter Classic hosted by the Kansas City Stars.

The team is 26-21-4 and 15-0-1 in their last 16 games. They are tied for first in the Missouri Hockey League (the team they are tied with has one game in hand though but the Jr. Mavs are 2-0 vs. that team). The Jr. Mavs and KC Stars are the only non St. Louis / Illinois teams in their division of the Missouri hockey league.

The goalies, Connor Adams (4) and Malik Johnson (2) have combined for 6 shutouts.

The coaching staff consists of Head coach Chris Johnston, Asst. Jonathan Lindop and Team Manager Rob Carpenter

The team headed to Fargo early Thursday morning and will play at least 5 games, Friday - Sunday. The kids will participate in skills competitions on Thursday including a goalie race, relay race, obstacle course and target shoot.
