Lee's Summit Man Alleged Sexual Assault of a 13-year-old Lake Lotawana girl

A 22-year-old Lee’s Summit man has been charged in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a Lake Lotawana 13-year-old.
Codey J. Everhart, 22 (dob: 4/15/1991), faces forcible rape and two counts of statutory rape first degree charges.*
According to court documents, a Jackson County Sheriff’s deputy was dispatched on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at about 9:46 a.m. to the Lake Lotawana Police Department.
Upon arrival the Lotawana Police officer advised the Deputy that the victim’s mother, who brought the victim to the Lake Lotawana Police station to report a rape that had just occurred.
The mother stated that when she returned home that morning the victim told her she had just been raped by the neighbor, in the victim’s home.
While the Deputy was speaking with the victim’s mother, Everhart attempted to call her several times.
According to court records the defendant sent the victim’s mother the following text message which started at approximately 9:00 a.m.
The text messages are as follows:
“Omg im so sorry….it was the biggest mistake IV ever made plz I’m sorry plz don’t call the cops…Ihave kids…plz I will do whatever u want I’m so so rry handsome sacred I shouldv never said yes when she asked me to come over And scared* I’m so scared….I’m so sorry mam….I sware off girls altogther…plz I’m so sorry….plz say something? ?? Plz call me mam I’m so scared right now I feel like my whole world is gona crash dwon on me…..And I ‘m worried ima loose my daugthers…….. (plz call or text plzzz”
After she let him into her home to use the restroom, she told police, he grabbed her and threw her down and had sexual intercourse with her against her will. She struggled until she got away, hid and later ran to a friend’s house, she said.
Jackson County Prosecutors requested a bond of $250,000 cash.
*Charges are only accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until the defendant is either found guilty or has pleaded.
