Lee’s Summit man charged in son’s shooting

May 9, 2014

Chad M. Beatie

A 40-year-old Lee’s Summit man has been charged in the shooting of his son early today, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced.

Chad M. Beatie, dob: 2/24/1974, faces Domestic Assault 1st Degree and Armed Criminal Action.*

According to court records, witnesses said the victim and defendant had been drinking for hours. They were working on a motorcycle, according to a witness, when they instructed the victim’s girlfriend to go to the basement. Then she heard the victim say he had been shot.

Another witness, the defendant’s girlfriend said she saw the defendant and victim in a fight on the floor of the garage. Later, she was awakened by a gunshot and saw the defendant standing in the garage with a handgun. A gun was later recovered and it was the same type of gun that would have left the shell casing found at the scene. The defendant told police he shot the victim.

The Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office requested a bond of $250,000.
