Now registering for January Babysitter Boot Camp & Kids First Aid
Lee’s Summit Parks and Recreation is offering two great classes to prepare children for emergencies and the ins and outs of babysitting. The popular Babysitter Boot Camp for kids ages 10 and up will be Saturday, January 18 from 9am – 2:30pm. Participants will learn age appropriate play strategies, games and crafts, chow preparation, how to manage lights out, personal and child safety, first aid and CPR and more! Register by December 20 for the early bird fee of $28. After that the fee increases to $31.
Kids First Aid for children ages 7-12 will prepare kids to get help quickly and handle first aid emergencies like burns, bleeding, sprains, facial injuries and illness. Activities and games will provide emergency skill development and emphasize accident prevention. This class will be held Thursday, January 28 from 6-7pm and is $10 per child when registered by January 14 and $11 after that.

Itty Bitty and Pee Wee Basketball now registering
Lee’s Summit Parks & Recreation’s popular Itty Bitty for 3-4 year olds and Pee Wee for 5-6 year olds, program for Basketball will begin on January 11 with early bird registration ending on December 26. The program divides participants in to groups and then rotates them to different skill building stations working up to a game on the final day. Sessions will be held on Saturdays, through February 15 at Harris Park Community Center.
Various 45 minute time slots are available with Itty Bitty in the morning and Pee Wee in the early afternoon. The registration fee is just $38 for early bird ($42 after early bird ends). The success of this program is dependent upon volunteer station leaders. Parents and guardians able to volunteer should mark their calendars for the January 9 meeting at 7pm at the Harris Park Community Center. Lee’s Summit Parks & Recreation Youth Basketball Camp to be held during winter break
Lee’s Summit Parks & Recreation is hosting a youth basketball camp at Harris Park Community Center on December 23, 26 and 27. Youth in third through fifth grades will have camp from 9-10:30am. Sixth through eighth graders will play from 10:30am – 12pm. Each camp will focus on practicing and improving skills important to the game including shooting, passing, dribbling, defense and more. Registrations made by December 2 will receive the Early Bird Discount with the fee being $37. After that the fee will be $41 with a deadline of December 2. Lee’s Summit Parks & Recreation First Aid Certification Course offered in January
The American Heart Association credentialed First Aid course with certifications is scheduled for Thursday, January 9 from 6-9pm. This is a certified course meeting guidelines of OSHA and DHS. Skills include management of bleeding, shock, burns, dislocations, fractures, splinting, head/neck injury, and medical emergencies. Upon successful completion, the Heartsaver First Aid two-year certification card is issued. The class fee is $24 when registered by December 19 and $26 after that.
