LEE’S SUMMIT POLICE INVESTIGATE SCHOOL BUS ACCIDENT
January 31, 2011
Sgt. Chris Depue, Lee's Summit Police Department
On 1-31-2011 at approximately 3:30 p.m. members of the Lee’s Summit Police Department were called to the scene of a single vehicle accident involving an R-7 school bus. Initial reports indicate that a bus carrying approximately 35 students from Campbell Junior High (7th and 8th grade) was travelling north on Cedar Creek Lane when the driver attempted to navigate a curve in the roadway. The right side tires of the bus slid off the roadway causing the bus to roll onto its side.
The driver and students were able to safely evacuate the bus and were brought into a nearby residence. Minor injuries were reported at the scene including scrapes, bruises and a bloody nose. One child was transported by ambulance from the scene for neck and back pain. The children were eventually loaded onto two smaller buses and taken to nearby Cedar Creek Elementary where the school district was working with parents to get the children picked up.
