On Thursday evening at approximately 9:15 p.m. officers with the Lee’s Summit Police Department were sent to the 500 block of NE Howard Avenue to investigate a report of a suspicious person. Upon arriving in the area, the officer located the suspect and both the officer and the suspect exchanged gunfire. The suspect then attempted to flee from the area on foot.
