On Thursday evening at approximately 9:15 p.m. officers with the Lee’s Summit Police Department were sent to the 500 block of NE Howard Avenue to investigate a report of a suspicious person. Upon arriving in the area, the officer located the suspect and both the officer and the suspect exchanged gunfire. The suspect then attempted to flee from the area on foot. After a short search, the suspect was located and taken into custody. The suspect was identified as a 17 year old male. The suspect’s weapon was recovered in the area.
There were no injuries reported and neither the officer nor the suspect was struck during the incident.

I've lived in Lee's Summit many years and have never heard of a Police Shooting here before. Has there ever been one, and if so when??
