By Sgt. Chris Depue Lee's Summit Police Department
On Thursday, July 17 at approximately 6:00 p.m. officers with the Lee’s Summit Police Department were summoned to the area of 50 Highway on the report of a person being held in a vehicle against their will. Officers responded to the area and were able to locate and stop the suspect vehicle on 50 Highway near the 291 (south) junction. Officers detained the driver and identified him as a 23 year old adult male.
Officers then conducted an interview with the adult female victim and were able to determine that the male and female were travelling from Iowa en route to an undetermined location. During the interview, the victim disclosed a previous domestic relationship with the suspect. During the trip the female indicated to the male subject that she wanted to exit the vehicle and the male subject refused to let her exit.
The female passenger was able to send text messages to a third party who notified law enforcement of the victim’s location prior to the vehicle being located and stopped.
Detectives are currently interviewing the victim and the suspect as the investigation continues to develop. The vehicle was removed from the highway and is being examined by detectives for evidence.
Detectives have completed their investigation into the incident last night on 50 highway. After conducting interviews with the victim and suspect the case was declined for prosecution. The male suspect in the case, 22 year old Johnte A. King-Chambers of Austin, Texas was charged with possession of marijuana and traffic offenses in municipal court. The defendant’s bond was set at $1400 and he remains in custody as of this press release.
