On Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at approximately 3:00 p.m., emergency crews responded to the area of SW 2nd Street and SW Madison on a two car vehicle crash.
The on-scene investigation revealed that the driver of a blue Ford Ranger was attempting to turn onto SW 2nd Street from Madison and failed to yield the right of way to a westbound driver in a blue Chevy Venture mini-van.
The impact caused the Ford Ranger pickup truck to roll onto its side. The driver of the mini-van was transported by ambulance to an area hospital and treated for minor injuries. The driver of the pickup truck was treated at the scene and released.
The driver of the truck was identified as 17 year old Joseph Dennison of Lee’s Summit and the driver of the mini-van was identified as 79 year old Mary Morris of Greenwood, MO. The driver of the Ford Ranger was cited for failing to yield the right of way.
While officers were on the scene of the first accident, a second accident was reported in the area of NW 1st Street and NW Lakeview Blvd. that involved a school bus.
Officers responding to that accident discovered that the driver of the bus was attempting to turn north on Lakeview Blvd from 1st Street when the back end of the bus made contact with a car parked on the south edge of the roadway.
The bus had approximately 10 students on board and there were no injuries reported. The driver of the bus was cited for an improper turn.
