Lee's Summit R-7 Archery Teams Capture Awards At NASP National Championships

May 24, 2014

Teams from Lee's Summit West High School, Summit Lakes Middle School and Longview Farm Elementary captured awards at the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) tournament, held May 9-10 in Louisville, KY. The three teams qualified for the national championship by winning at the state-level contest, held March 28-29, and all three teams have qualified for the next level of competition.

The national competition included close to 10,500 of the nation's top student archers.

The Lee's Summit West High School Titan Archery Team posted a season high team tournament score of 3,268 at the NASP national championship. The LSWHS team, in its first year, finished 59th in the nation out of the 170 high school teams that qualified for nationals. This was the third highest score of all qualifying Missouri teams. This performance qualified the LSWHS team for the World Championships in July.

In addition, LSWHS student Shelby Winslow placed fifth among high school girls in individual competition, earning her a spot on the All-American Team, comprised of the top 16 archers in the country. The All-American Team will represent the United States this summer, competing in the All-Nations All-Star Championships against the best NASP archery teams from Canada, England and South Africa.

The Summit Lakes Middle School team posted its second best score of the season, 3,335, to capture sixth place from among 197 middle-school teams qualifying for nationals. This score also qualified the SLMS team for the World Championships, scheduled for July 11 through 13 in Madison, Wis.

Longview Farm Elementary had a breakout performance, eclipsing 3,000 points for the first time this season. The team's season high score of 3,034 was the second highest score of all elementary Missouri teams in attendance. The Longview Farm performance also qualified the students for the World Championships.
