Grisamore Receives Statewide Award from Missouri Assistive Technology Council

Lee’s Summit Rep honored for his leadership for individuals with disabilities

State Representative Jeff Grisamore, R—Lee’s Summit/Greenwood made a stop in Columbia on the way to session in Jefferson City on Monday, April 26.  He received an award from the Missouri Assistive Technology Council at their annual Power Up Conference attended by 450 persons from throughout Missouri, the Midwest and the nation.

The statewide award in appreciation for Grisamore’s leadership and dedication to assuring equal access for all Missourians with disabilities was presented by Marty Exline, Director of Missouri Assistive Technologies, a state agency of the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation under the Missouri Department of Education.

"Representative Grisamore has shown a commitment to making assistive technology more available to Missourians with disabilities,” said Marty Exline, Director of Missouri Assistive Technology.  "He has sponsored bills to improve access to devices that can mean more independence and fuller participation in education, employment and community living,” said Exline.

The annual conference is the largest of its kind in the Midwest and includes exhibits from dozens of vendors that provide assistive and adaptive technologies to individuals with physical and developmental disabilities.

Grisamore was appointed by the Speaker of the House, Ron Richard, in 2009 to represent the 163-member Missouri House or Representatives on the Missouri Assistive Technology Advisory Council. Senator Scott Rupp, R-Wentzville, is the Senate member of the Council. The Council meets bi-monthly throughout the year.

During his remarks to the conference attendees, Grisamore emphasized his passion and ongoing commitment to advocate for individuals with disabilities, their families and those who care for them.

“I am honored and humbled to receive this award and it gives me even more motivation to redouble my efforts to fight and advocate for those in the disabilities communities,” said Grisamore. “From senior citizens needing adaptive technologies to stay at home, to individuals with physical and developmental disabilities, we have multitudes of Missourians to serve,” he added.

Grisamore’s Leadership Award from the Missouri Assistive Technology Council follows receiving the Legislator of the Year Award in 2009 from EITAS—Developmental Disabilities Services of Jackson County.
