Lee's Summit Scout Named Missouri American Legion Eagle Scout of the Year

April 8, 2017

Camron Haas, Lee’s Summit, MO, has been selected by the American Legion Department of Missouri as their 2017 Eagle Scout of the Year for his exceptional leadership in Scouting and community service. Camron received the highest score among all Missouri applicants and will be honored at the Legion’s state convention this July in Jefferson City, MO. He will also be eligible to compete for the American Legion’s National Eagle Scout of the Year which will be announced in August at the Legion’s national convention.

Camron is a member of Troop 42 chartered by Woods Chapel Community of Christ in Lee’s Summit. Camron has held almost every leadership role within his troop including Senior Patrol Leader. He earned the rank of Eagle at the age of 14, received the National Outdoor Activity award in camping and has received two Gold Scouting Participating Medals for his work with special needs Scouts.
Community service is very important to Camron. He has been an active participant with the City of Lee's Summit's Youth Court for the past 4 years where he has served in numerous roles, but primarily as the prosecuting attorney. He also serves as a board member and active volunteer in the service organization, TEENS 4 GOOD. Camron has been a youth counselor for the past two years at the Lee’s Summit Rotary Camp for special needs Scouts and is excited to return this summer.

Camron is a senior at Blue Springs South High School and competes on the varsity debate team and the varsity golf team. He is a member of the Mock Trial Team and has qualified to attend the state tournament in St. Louis. He is a member of HOSA (Health Occupation Students of America) and will be competing in the HOSA state debate tournament in Rolla.

Camron has a 4.2 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society. When thinking about a career choice, he took into consideration his love of science and how much he enjoys helping others. After doing some research Camron decided that a job in the field of pharmacy would be a good fit. He will be attending the University of Missouri-Kansas City this fall and was 1 of 40 freshmen accepted into the School of Pharmacy’s Early Assurance Program.

Camron is the son of Troy and Suzy Haas of Lee’s Summit.
