Lee’s Summit Senior High School Hosts JROTC Drill Meet

Lee’s Summit West Cadet Major Will Keith awarded 2nd place trophy in Solo Armed Exhibition

Lee’s Summit High School hosted its 18th annual drill competition on January 25, 2014.

Cadets from 17 Missouri and Kansas JROTC units filled the hallways of Lee’s Summit High School, competing for trophies and medals throughout the day.

Local cadets from Lee’s Summit West and Lee’s Summit North were among the winners of the event. Lee’s Summit High School, as the host of the event, competed for experience but did not include themselves in the teams eligible for awards.

Lee’s Summit North Cadets Ryan May, Sam Morris, George Schwetz, Zachary Cihacek, Zech Ford, Dayna Hinkle, Jolene Skaggs, Jasmine Keeling, and Jacob Rogers commanded by Cadet SSgt Patrick Leach placed 2nd in Armed Regulation.

Lee’s Summit North Cadets George Schwetz, Sam Morris, Patrick Leach, Jasmine Keeling, Katie Lukowski, Zach Cihacek, Jolene Skaggs, Ryan May,and Alyssah Collins commanded by 1st Lt Dana Hinkle took 4th in Unarmed Regulation.

The Lee’s Summit North Bronco Force Drill Team placed 4th in Overall Regulation Drill. Lee’s Summit area cadets also excelled in individual events. In the Individual Drill Down (IDD) Competition, Lee’s Summit North Cadet Airman 1st Class Alyssah Collins placed 9th, Lee’s Summit North Cadet 2nd Lt Ryan May placed 8th and Lee’s Summit North Cadet Airman Valyssa Caballero placed 7th.

Lee’s Summit West Cadet Major Will Keith placed 2nd in Solo Armed Exhibition for the 3rd time this drill season.
