Lee's Summit State Representative Brian Yates Steps Down from Office
11.25.09
Representative Brian Yates (R-56) would like to inform the public that he will be stepping down from public office at the end of this month.
His departure comes on the last year he is eligible to serve in the House due to term limits. He is looking forward to spending time at home with his wife and 18 month old son. Yates also added that leaving the house early in a term limited era will provide an advantage to his likely successor Mike Cierport, who will now have a seniority advantage over the incoming class of more than 50 freshman lawmakers being elected in 2010. “This will be a tremendous advantage for Lee's Summit, for my successor to move up quickly on behalf of Eastern Jackson County” said Yates.
Yates’ departure from the house also means that he will not be running for the 8th Senatorial district. Yates has stated that family is more important than politics, and that it is extremely difficult and challenging with a young child to be gone from home so long during session.
Brian would like to add that he is not conceding the 8th Senatorial seat to Representative Bryan Pratt. Another remarkably well respected candidate from Lee's Summit is going to emerge, bringing strong conservative values to the race.
“It has been an honor and privilege to serve the 56th District the past 7 years. I would like to thank all my supporters and constituents for allowing me the opportunity to serve them in the Missouri House” said Yates. “I have confidence that my continued fight for education, lower taxes and government growth, ethics reform, and job creation will continue with Mike Cierpot representing the District next year."
The Governor will likely call a Special Election to fill the seat early next year.
