Lee's Summit student struck by car near bus stop
January 17, 2014
By Sgt. Chris Depue
On January 17th at 8:30 a.m. emergency crews responded to the area of SW Batten Drive and SW Raintree Drive on the report that a child had been struck by a car.
The initial investigation revealed that a student was attempting to cross Raintree Drive in order to catch her school bus when she was struck by a car that was travelling east on SW Raintree Parkway.
The school bus had stopped on Raintree Drive heading westbound but had not yet deployed the stop arm.
The child had been walking beside the vehicle and it appears that when she observed her bus was stopped she ran into the roadway and did not see the vehicle.
The female student was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the car was not cited in the accident.
