Lone Jack plans “Pedal for the Park” Ride
September 15, 2012
By Shelley Holsten
Lone Jack Park Board reports that its “Purchase the Park” campaign is halfway to its goal of $50,000. The purpose of the campaign is to help purchase 30 acres on the east side of the high school ball fields on which to develop a city park.
The first ever “Pedal for the Park” will be held October 6, at 7:00 AM in Lone Jack. This fundraising event is a bike ride designed for mature riders as it will cross 50 HWY. The cost is $25 if paid before Oct. 1, and riders must be 16 yrs. or accompanied by one adult/child. The ride itself will be a pedal along paved country roads through gently rolling terrain and consist of three options, 16, 32, or 50 miles, all starting at the entrance to the Lone Jack High School parking lot. All routes will roughly follow the path that Confederate soldiers traveled on their approach to the Battle of Lone Jack 150 years ago.
The ride is being planned for a time of year when the weather should be pleasant but will take place rain or shine. Additional information and registration forms can be found on the City of Lone Jack's web page www.lonejackmo.org, or e-mail mneil.bass@yahoo.com for more information. Proceeds from the upcoming bike ride will benefit the park campaign.
Those who would simply like to make a tax deductible donation to the campaign may purchase an engraved brick for the donor wall to be erected in the new park. The forms are available at City Hall or on the city website listed above.
