LSW to host “Rally for the Cure” Sept. 17
September 15, 2012
Bragging rights will be on the line when the Lee’s Summit West girls’ tennis team hosts Lee’s Summit North Sept. 17, but thanks to the seniors on the team, the match will have even greater significance.
Seniors Alli Kelly, Laura Kelly, and Madeline Thompson have been the driving force behind the First LSW Ladies’ Tennis “Rally for the Cure.”
The three seniors wanted to help the community, as well as promote tennis in an event that would be fun for both players and spectators, according to Thompson.
“There are so many people that we seniors know who have been affected by breast cancer, including some of our relatives. This being our last year, we wanted to do something special and fun that will, hopefully, be continued on into the future so girls’ tennis can keep supporting breast cancer awareness,” Thompson said.
All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
Lady Titans are currently taking orders for pink “Rally for the Cure” T-shirts. Shirts cost $10 each.
Shirts may also be purchased in the LSW Commons during lunch on Sept. 13, Sept. 14, and Sept. 17.
With the backing of the rest of the Lady Titans tennis team, the seniors have set their goal for a “Pink-Out” at the Monday match.
In addition to the pink T-shirts, Lady Titans will be finding lots of creative ways to make people see shades of pink throughout the courts, according to Thompson.
“We will use pink tennis balls at the match, so hopefully the courts will look like pink blurs,” Thompson said. “Rally for the Cure” sponsors include Sei Bella, Hilltop Racquet Club, Hy-Vee, J. Beans Gathering Place, Metro East Tennis Center, and Walker and Williams Photography.
Match time is set for 3:30.
