LSWHS Mini-camp For LS R-7 Extended Year Program

July 12, 2014

The Lee’s Summit West High School football team recently designed a mini-camp to provide a positive experience for students in the Lee's Summit R-7 School District extended year program, while introducing the fundamentals of the game of football and playing for the love of the game.

Coach Jesse Dziurawiec shared, “This mini-camp is an opportunity for the Titan football team to give back to the community.”

The Titan players worked directly with the students to teach basic skills and cheer them on. The students participated in warm-up exercises, kicking, passing, catching and agility drills. In addition, the students dressed out in pads and helmets and huddled with the players to do the breakdown.

"The huddle made them feel like they were part of the team and really pumped them up," said Kay Rader, teacher in the extended year program.

The highlight for many students was receiving a Titans football at the conclusion of the camp.

“It was very exciting for everyone involved," said Kim Smith, R-7 licensed practical nurse. "The players embodied the spirit of team work, and the students thrived when interacting with the players to create an experience of a life time.”
