Matt Lewis Needs Lee’s Summit’s Help

March 17, 2017

Matt Lewis, son of Judge Bill Lewis, 1991 Lee’s Summit High School graduate, and Lee’s Summit and world-wide known Elvis impersonator needs your help.

His wife, Janell Lewis, is currently critically ill in an ICU in Nevada and needs life-saving surgery at UCLA. Their insurance will not cover the costs of the transfer and surgery and Janelle needs to be transferred immediately.

Janell has been diagnosed with Pheochromocytoma, a tumor in her adrenal gland. This placement leaves her in a constant state of “fight or flight” mode as her adrenal gland continues to pump out epinephrine at large rates. So far she has suffered damage to her heart, lungs, kidney, and brain due to high blood pressure.

Nevada does not have the resources to treat her condition, but UCLA does and they will take cash. $125,000 is needed to save her life.

According to the GoFundMe page set up by friend Michelle Johnson, they have found a doctor at UCLA who is willing to take Janell as a patient. However, UCLA cannot take her unless they know insurance will cover the cost and pre-authorize the treatment. According to Matt, no one is budging.

“UCLA will allow her to be admitted if we can make a cash payment of a whopping $125,000 for a week of stabilization, the surgery, followed by a week of stabilization. On top of that I have to personally pay for the ICU door to door ambulance and flight.

$125,000 seems impossible. But I believe in a God who can do impossible things. I believe my wife's life should be in the hands of experts who have done this surgery many times in the past 12 months.  Healthcare in this country is screwed up. I don't care what side of the aisle you are on. The side I'm on is the beside Janell in her hospital room, watching her health decline while bureaucracies fight about where the money is coming from for the insurance I have already purchased.

I humbly ask you for your support. I am in a real hour of need. Janell is the love of my life and I have faith that the Lord will see us through this.”

As of press time, $70,437 has been raised in less than 24 hours.
