One of 12 new players to the 2013-14 Missouri Mavericks hockey team Goaltender Erno Suomalainen is improving his play in practice rather than during a game. With starting goaltender Shane Owen winning CHL Goaltender of the week and month honors Erno understands the reason for lack of playing time.
The left handed native of Finland is looking forward to a time he is counted on more by his team. For now the soon to be 23 year old provides a steady hand in practice and provides depth to the first place Mavericks. Bus as he was called during his playing days in Finland is in his 1st year in the Central Hockey League following a 2 year stint in his native country. Still at home rooting him in Espoo, Finland is his mom, dad and a little brother.
Erno first put on a pair of skates at the age of 7. Erno showed his hockey ability as a youth and his favorite hockey memory is proof of that. Erno was a member of the under 20 team that won a national championship in Finland back in 2009.
Now in America Erno’s favorite team is the Detroit Red Wings of the NHL. Erno’s career goal is to one day play in the National Hockey League. If not in pro hockey today Erno would be in finance or something in Banking.
On those long road trips in the CHL Erno spends his time watching movies or playing cards. Erno watches lots of movies and admits his favorite actor is Vin Diesel. Like many of his teammates he does like to cook. Erno’s specialty is Chicken Pasta. Following his playing days Erno hopes to be remembered as a goalie that battles. While still new to the area Erno has taken a quick liking to the Downtown Kansas City area.
Erno and his teammates will try to stay in first place in the CHL
