Thursday, May 3 at approximately 4:30 p.m., Lee’s Summit 911 received a medical call requesting assistance near the intersection of SW Wintercreek and SW Winterpark Drive. A mother driving with her 13 month old son in the back of her vehicle noticed he was unresponsive. She pulled into the Winterpark Community Center parking lot, called 911 and began to perform life-saving measures.

Officers and Fire Department personnel performed CPR at the scene but all efforts were unsuccessful. LSPD towed the vehicle as customary and will investigate the incident in conjunction with the Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office who will be performing the autopsy.

When asked how this type of situation is investigated, Public Information Officer, Sgt Chris Depue said, “Our officers will work backwards from the time of the incident. They will go back 48 to 72 hours on an hour by hour basis examining the entire timeline for the infant. While there is no suspicion of foul play our investigators will be talking with all witnesses to determine what lead up to the incident.”

I know a woman who is personally close with this family. I know for a fact that this was just all a tragic accident. The parents are awesome people who are kind and loving. Prayers are with this family in this time of hardship. Many people often forget things when their minds are filled with many things to do throughout the day. People get sidetracked and off course. This is an unfortunate tragedy and no parents should have to bury their children.
