Aldi Grand Reopening

There’s a fresh look at the renovated ALDI grocery in Lee’s Summit.

Some things stay the same. You still use a quarter to get a shopping cart and return it to get your quarter back. The grocer still emphasizes company brands at low prices.

Kitchen Fire Damages Home

On Saturday, September 2, 2017, at 11:22 a.m. the Lee's Summit Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 632 SE Jonathon Avenue. The occupant of the house arrived home and smoke was coming from the house. No one else was home. The caller reported multiple pets in the home.

When the fire department arrived, smoke was visible from the front of the one-story raised ranch house. All of the occupants were safe outside.

Concerns over Flooding in Vista Del Verde Neighborhood Addressed in Public Comments

Lee’s Summit resident Patrick Hix spoke to the mayor and all eight members of the City Council about flooding concerns in his neighborhood. Hix told the Council that he lived in the Vista Del Verde area. 

According to the neighborhood website, the area is located approximately between Vista Drive to the west, Country Lane to the east, Eighth Street to the south, and Seventh Street to the North. The neighborhood also includes some property on Fifth Street and Sixth Street.

Council Rules Committee Plans One More Review of the Ethics Policy

An ethics policy moving through the Council Rules Committee will make one more pass through the Committee before it makes its way on to the full Council.

The Council Rules Committee met September 5 to discuss the policy.

Second Suspicious Fire Heavily Damages House Located At 1215 SE 11th Street

On Saturday, September 9, 2017, at 11:49 p.m. the Lee's Summit Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 1215 SE 11th Street. 

A neighbor reported a fire on the back deck of the house. The house also had a fire back in June of this year.

LEE’S SUMMIT POLICE INVESTIGATING TWO VEHICLE FATAL CRASH

On 9/9/2017 at approximately 4:15 p.m. emergency crews were called to the area of NE Lienweber Road and NE Todd George Road on the report of a two car crash with serious injuries.

Lathrop Arrest Raises Questions About Political Contributions

The arrest of a local man on felony fraud and stealing charges has raised questions about the man’s contributions to local causes, and whether he used stolen funds for those contributions.

According to court records, Steven M. Lathrop was arrested and charged with seven felony counts.

Lemonade Stand Raises Money for Hurricane Harvey

Lee's Summit 10 year-old, Cruz Ruoff, wanted to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Harvey. He went about it by selling a cup of lemonade for $1 each. 

With the help of the community and friends, he was able to raise $550!
