Traffic Alert: Traffic Will be Reduced to One Lane Each Direction on Colbern Road from NE Rice Rd to NE Town Centre Drive Beginning May 18

The Missouri Department of Transportation will reduce traffic to one lane each direction on south half of Colbern Road between NE Rice Road and NE Town Centre Blvd. beginning Thursday, May 18. 

The northern lanes of Colbern Road will remain closed until approximately mid-August. 

This closure is for the demolition and rehabilitation of the north part of the Colbern Road Bridges over I-470 and Route 291.

TRAFFIC SWITCH: Motorists on U.S. 50 Will Switch to New Pavement At Route 291

 Missouri Department of Transportation will shift traffic on east and westbound U.S. 50 to the shoulders this week so crews can begin building sections of the new Route 291 bridge. All work is weather dependent.
 
This project will reconstruct the Route 291 bridges into a diverging diamond design and change the intersection of Blue Parkway, the north outer road to US 50 Highway, and Jefferson Street into a roundabout. Learn more about this project on our website.

MDC welcomes Great Missouri Birding Trail on May 17

Online birding guide map will be celebrated at Burr Oak Woods Nature Center
 
Missouri is a great place for birding, thanks to varied natural habitats and the state’s middle position in migratory flyways. The Great Missouri Birding Trail, an online map, is one way to explore birding hotspots. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) and the Missouri Bird Conservation Foundation will celebrate the web trail’s completion 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, May 17, at the Burr Oak Woods Nature Center, 1401 N.W. Park Road in Blue Springs.

Lee's Summit Airport Hosts Fly In Event

COMBAT presents Peer Court of Southeast Jackson County Fly-In at Lee's Summit Airport on Thursday, May 18. 

Families of all ages are invited to participate in this military appreciation night from 6-8 p.m. at the Lee's Summit Airport (2751 NE Douglas). There is no need to RSVP. 

The Missouri National Guard Counter Drug Aviation Program and the KCPC will fly-in with their helicopters to kick off the event. After the fly-in, the helicopters will be on continued display for the rest of the evening.

Congratulations to LS R-7 Retiring Staff Members

A total of 101 Lee's Summit R-7 staff members were recognized at the district's annual Retirement Reception, held May 2 at the Stansberry Leadership Center. The honored guests included staff members retiring at the end of this school year as well as those retiring anytime after the May 2016 reception.
