LS R-7 Teachers, Students Honored By Local Daughters Of The American Revolution Chapter

Several Lee’s Summit R-7 School District teachers and students were honored Feb. 3 by the Prairie Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution at a celebration held at John Knox Village.

City Grapples With Budget Crisis

A Lee’s Summit Police officer told the Lee's Summit City Council on Thursday about how he had to apply for food stamps to feed his wife and two kids because his $45,000 a year salary wasn't enough to support his family. 

His wife lost her job and he was the breadwinner for his family. Officer Miller shared his story at a City Council meeting grappling with the challenges bringing police, fire and public safety workers up to market in a sustainable way. The current city budget has $1.6 million available to address pay inequities for core employees while salaries are uncertain for police, fire and public safety organizations because of negotiations.

Not Your Mother's CPR

To mark American Heart Month, Lee’s Summit Medical Center and Lee’s Summit Fire Department educated the community with the help of students, dance teams, cheerleaders and faculty by providing hands-only CPR training to the beat of the Bee Gees’ disco hit, “Stayin’ Alive” during halftime at the Lee's Summit North basketball game on Tuesday, Feb. 6.

Just like the music cassette tapes that people in the 1970s listened to, enjoying songs like the Bee Gees’ hit, “Stayin’ Alive,” the decades have changed many things—including the way that CPR is taught. And patrons of Tuesday night’s Park Hills vs. Lee’s Summit North High School basketball game got to see how easy hands-only CPR is to perform—to the tune of “Stayin’ Alive.”

Circuit Court In Jackson County Closed For State Holidays in February 2018

The judicial offices of the Circuit Court in Jackson County will be closed at all of its locations on Monday, February 12 for Lincoln’s Birthday, and Monday, February 19 for Presidents’ Day. 

Both dates are State of Missouri holidays, and the Jackson County Circuit Court is part of the state court system.
