April 19, 2012
On Sunday, April 15th at approximately 3:15 a.m. officers were called to the 100 block of SE Todd George Road on a reported armed robbery. The investigation on scene revealed that a single suspect had entered the store, produced a handgun and demanded money. The suspect then fled on foot from the business. There were no shots fired and no injuries reported at the scene.
An officer in the area observed a vehicle that was leaving the area near the robbery. The officer conducted a stop of the vehicle and upon approaching the vehicle the driver sped away. The officer pursued the suspect to the north city limits where officers with the Independence Police Department took over the pursuit from Lee’s Summit officers. The suspect eventually crashed the vehicle and fled on foot. The suspect was not apprehended and the investigation into the robbery continues. The handgun and bag of money was recovered.
