Police investigating suspicious activity near Lee’s Summit Elementary School

The Lee’s Summit Police Department is currently investigating a suspicious person seen this morning near Lee’s Summit Elementary, 110 SE Green Street.
Initial reports indicate that the victim, a 5th grade student, was walking to school when he was approached by a black male in a light blue or gray vehicle. The victim stated the male suspect drove up to him and offered him a ride. The suspect then drove beside the child as he walked on the sidewalk and again offered him a ride. The victim was able to run to the school and the suspect left the area.
The vehicle is described as a light blue or gray four door sedan, possibly a Chrysler.
The suspect is described as a black male approximately 25 years old, dark skinned with a thin build with collar length “corn rows”.
The suspect was wearing a green and black striped hooded sweatshirt and black jeans.
Anyone with information is asked to call the LSPD TIPS Hotline at 816-969-1752. If the vehicle or suspect is spotted, please call 911 or 816-969-7390 immediately to report the information.
***************UPDATED 1/19/2012 5:30 P.M.***************** The follow up investigation into this incident has been completed. After a thorough neighborhood canvas of the incident location, witnesses were located that offered additional information about the incident. The investigation has revealed that the facts reported to Police were false. The Lee’s Summit Police Department is no longer seeking the suspect and vehicle that was originally broadcast. The investigation into the incident has been completed.

We should pat the 5th grader on the back!. He did the right thing by running and telling a teacher. We need to remind other kids that's what they need do anytime a stranger approaches them.

Actually, they should NOT pat the 5th grader on the back since the article states that the facts reported to the police were FALSE. The boy needs some therapy because it's obvious he is seeking attention.
