On Thursday, May 22, 2014, at 4:21 a.m. the Lee’s Summit Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 607 NE Short Street. The occupant of the house reported a fire on the back porch spreading to the house.
When the fire department arrived, fire was visible from the back of the house. All occupants were outside.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire involving the roof of the covered back porch as crews entered the building to check for fire spread into the living area and attic. A search of the house confirmed that everyone was outside.
The fire was contained to the roof area of the porch with minimal fire spread into the house. The fire was under control at 4:47 a.m.
The fire heavily damaged the roof over the back porch with only minor fire and smoke damage to the inside of the home.
