Lee’s Summit West Receives Global Education Excellence Award
June 16, 2012
The Leader in high school exchange, EF Foundation for Foreign Study, recognizes Lee’s Summit West for their commitment to global education awareness.
Lee’s Summit West received national recognition for excellence in global education by EF Foundation for Foreign Study, the leader in high school exchange. Awarded annually, the EF Foundation Global Education Excellence Award is presented to high schools/school districts that demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to international understanding and global awareness. Lee’s Summit West was one of a select group of schools recognized across the United States for the 2011-12 school year.
This year, Lee’s Summit West welcomed five EF Foundation exchange students. Not only were the students accepted into the Lee’s Summit school/district, they became an integral part of the school’s/district’s academic and extracurricular life, involving the community-at-large in the exchange experience.
“Increasingly, parents, educators and the business community are recognizing the importance of preparing our kids for the global economy by creating ‘international’ experiences that broaden each student’s world perspectives,” noted Dan Sodervall, president, EF Foundation for Foreign Study. “Lee’s Summit West has shown an outstanding commitment to offering a global education. By welcoming exchange students into the classrooms, Lee’s Summit West has created new and unique learning opportunities not just for the exchange students, but for the American students and faculty as well.”
Local coordinator Cindy Chamberlain added, “We thank the Lee’s Summit District for welcoming this year’s students from around the globe. The community and visiting students shared an unforgettable experience thanks to the generosity of the principals, teachers, students and families.”
They are currently looking for host families for the Lee’s Summit District. To learn more about getting involved with high school exchange in this community, please contact Cindy Chamberlain at cindy.chamberlain@effoundation.org, or visit www.effoundation.org.
