Summit Technology Academy students win awards at SkillsUSA Janice Phelan,Community Relations Director Lee's Summit R-7 School District
Several Summit Technology Academy students recently won awards in the SkillsUSA annual National Leadership and Skills Conference, a showcase of career and technical education students. The annual event was held in late June in Kansas City and included student representatives from throughout the United States.
Summit Technology students placing in individual award categories included Rebecca Brooks, fifth in medical math; Barrek Roberts, fourth in computer inter-networking; and Stephen Gerry, sixth in telecommunications cabling. The team of Frank Ocampo, Lindsey Levota and Ashley Butler placed fourth in technical preparation microbiology showcase.
Summit Technology Academy students have participated in Skills USA for the past seven years and have been very successful in this national competition. Each category has up to 50 teams or competitors.
Summit Technology is a unique secondary school located within a high-tech business campus. The school prepares students to attend college in high-tech areas. Summit Technology is operated by the R-7 School District and also enrolls students from other high schools.
