The International Thespian Society, a division of the Educational Theatre Association, announced that all four Lee’s Summit area high schools’ Thespian Troupes will participate in the Trick or Treat so Kids Can Eat program.
This is a national community service program for ITS-member schools to collect canned and dry goods for local charities and food banks. The Halloween season is a crucial one for food banks. Food stockpiles are especially low at this time because the drives to help feed people for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays have not yet begun.
Theatre students from Lee’s Summit High School, Lee’s Summit North High School, Lee’s Summit West High School and Summit Christian Academy will be dressed in costumes to collect food donations during the local trick-or-treat activities beginning on Oct. 29. The main push will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31. All donations will go to benefit Lee’s Summit Social Services and Greenwood Families Helping Families.
Last year the schools combined for over 10,000 pounds of food. The four schools have set a goal of five tons this year.
