Effective November 5th, ReDiscover will assume operations of an opioid treatment facility formerly managed by the Samuel U. Rogers Health Center. The Treatment Options Program (TOP), located at 2701 East 31st Street in Kansas City, Missouri will provide medication-assisted treatment for people diagnosed with an opioid use disorder.
Opioid detox medication is a medical treatment that allows people to attend to their daily responsibilities while receiving treatment for their substance use disorder. They are able to return to work, drive without impairment and function normally in society.
“ReDiscover is responding to the growing crisis of opioid addiction by providing these clinically effective treatment services,” says Alan Flory, ReDiscover president and CEO. “Opioid use, specifically heroin, is fast becoming the biggest drug epidemic in America today. It’s in our cities, it’s in our small towns and it’s in our wealthy suburbs. In 2013, an estimated 1.8 million people had an opioid use disorder related to prescription pain relievers and about 517,000 had an opioid disorder related to heroin use. Fortunately, research shows that a combination of medication and therapy can successfully treat these disorders and can help sustain recovery.”
The center is expected to provide services to over 200 clients each month and will employ a psychiatrist, counselors, case managers and nurses. Current staff will continue on at this location and for those receiving services there, the change will seamless.
