Ribbon-cutting for 350 Highway & Chipman Road Commuter Lot: 7:15 a.m., Nov. 7

November 2, 2012

Event will feature coffee and pastries for attendees

The City of Lee’s Summit’s recent improvements to the Park & Ride Lot at 350 Highway and NW Chipman Road is a reason to celebrate.

You are invited to a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 7, near the bus shelter. Lee’s Summit Mayor Randy Rhoads and KCATA Senior Director of Engineering/Systems Development Dick Jarrold will speak at the ceremony.

“We are rising early to give a special thank you to our bus riders of The Metro’s 152-Lee’s Summit/Raytown Express bus line as well as to officially celebrate the opening of the newly renovated commuter lot,” said Mayor Rhoads.

As a part of the celebration, juice, coffee and donuts will be provided for event attendees.   City officials and staff will be at the lot greeting riders and helping to serve refreshments to riders boarding the 5:36 a.m., 6:06 a.m., 6:36 a.m. and 7:06 a.m. bus trips.

The improvements to the commuter lot began in mid-August 2012 and lasted for approximately three months.  The lot features a new bus passenger platform and shelter with heaters, bike racks, space for public art, signage, improved landscaping and decorative fencing.
The combined design and construction costs were approximately $330,000.  Here’s the breakdown of funding sources for the project:
•    Federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) Transit Funding – $244,500
•    Federal 5307 Transit Funding – $68,000
•    City’s  Local Transit Funding – $17,000

For more information about the project, contact Lee’s Summit City Engineer Michael Park at (816) 969-1800. For information about the ribbon-cutting ceremony, contact the City’s Administration Department at (816) 969-1010.
