Rockhurst University Presents “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee”
November 1, 2012
Rockhurst Theater continues its season with a performance of “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” a one-act musical comedy conceived by Rebecca Feldman with music and lyrics by William Finn. Performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 15 and 16, and 2:30 p.m. Nov. 17 and 18 in Rockhurst University’s Mabee Theater. Nominated for six Tony Awards, the show centers on six adolescent overachievers vying for the top prize in their school’s spelling competition. Four unsuspecting audience members also are drawn into the quirky contest. Guest director Heidi Van is supported with musical direction by Tom Kodera and choreography by Ashley Otis. Van, a theater creator and performer, is the cofounder and curator of the experimental Fishtank Performance Studio in Kansas City’s Crossroads District. She recently received the 2012 Generative Performing Arts Award by the Charlotte Street Foundation. General admissions tickets are $10 and may be purchased at the box office. For more information, contact the theater director Susan Proctor, Ph.D., at 816-501-4040 or susan.proctor@rockhurst.edu. Mabee Theater is located in Sedgwick Hall on the Rockhurst University campus, 54th Street and Troost Avenue.
