Summit Christian Academy is excited to announce that they have hired Byron Alvarez to be the new assistant soccer coach for boys and girls varsity soccer.
Alvarez began his career in the United States by playing for the Major League Soccer’s New York MetroStars in 2002. Byron has an impressive career in Mexico and the United States. In 2009 he played a pivotal role with the Monterrey La Raza on their way to that season’s championship. Alvarez signed with the Comets for the team’s inaugural season. He scored a league-most 80 points, including 33 goals and 12 assists. He earned the league’s Golden Boot and was named the 2010-2011 MVP. He holds the modern Comets record for career goals (93) and points (232). Alvarez has played 76 games for the Comets in his 3 years with the team. In that time he has had a hand in a staggering 266 points. Broken down, that is five 3-point goals, 102 2-point goals and 47 assists. Alvarez has been a significant force on the Comets offense from the beginning.
"I am very excited to have Byron Alvarez join our soccer family," said SCA Athletic Director Jake Kates. "He will bring a wealth of knowledge with him from his many years of professional soccer. Not only is he on fire for soccer, but he is also on fire for the Lord. He will be a great asset to our soccer programs."
