Schweich to Deliver Audit Results of Lee’s Summit School District Feb. 3

February 1, 2014

State Auditor Tom Schweich will present the results of the Lee’s Summit School District audit on Monday, Feb. 3 at 6:00 p.m., in the Tony L. Stansberry Leadership Center in Lee’s Summit.

State law gives the auditor the authority to audit public and charter schools in Missouri. Schweich will present the audit findings and take questions from those in attendance. The event is open to the public.

Tony L. Stansberry Leadership Center is located at 301 N.E. Tudor Road, Lee’s Summit.

During January 2013, Lee’s Summit R-7 officials were informed that the district is among several Missouri school districts participating in an audit during 2013 through the State Auditor’s Office. Lee’s Summit R-7 was selected randomly by the state for the audit.

The selection is not based on petitions from citizens or concerns about the district as is sometimes the case when the Auditor’s Office reviews school districts or other government agencies.

The Feb. 14, 2013, Board of Education meeting included a report from the Auditor’s Office. State officials emphasized that the audit is being conducted at no cost to the school district.

Auditors from Jefferson City were scheduled to work in the district with the audit expected to take several months to complete although auditors announced during February 2013 that it could be a full year before the complete audit report is issued.

The audit includes interviews, surveys and field work and began in mid February 2013.
