Redistricting Raises Question Marks about Representation
As we near the November election it’s important for all voters to understand that the district lines for state House and Senate districts are changing significantly. The changes are a product of the redistricting process that took place following the release of 2010 census data. With the changes in district boundaries, many residents now have questions regarding which district they are in and who they will have the option to vote for in a few weeks.
The easiest way to determine which district you are in is to use the Missouri Secretary of State’s website. I urge you to visit www.sos.mo.gov/elections/pollingplacelookup/ . By entering all of the requested information you will find your polling place. Click on “View Sample Ballot” to see a copy of the ballot with all of your federal, state and local officials for whom you will have the opportunity to cast your vote.
Seniors Should Be Aware of Medicare Early Enrollment Period
Seniors in our area should be aware that the early enrollment period for Medicare is currently underway. Because plans change on an annual basis, this period of time allows for beneficiaries to thoroughly analyze the costs and coverage of each plan to find their best option. It can be an overwhelming amount of information to take in and process. Fortunately, we have a state health insurance assistance program known as CLAIM to help seniors on Medicare to make the best choices for them and their family.
CLAIM will be hosting a Medicare AEP (Annual Enrollment Period) event in my district: Date: October 25, 2012 Time: 7-9 pm Location: Mid-Continent Library - Lone Jack 211 N. Bynum Road Lone Jack, Mo 64070
It is recommended that all Medicare beneficiaries review, during the AEP, all of the Medicare Part D and Part C plans available to them for the upcoming year.
This review will help to make sure they will be covered by the plan in 2013, which will best meet their financial and health care needs. CLAIM offers assistance for this type of review at the Medicare AEP events they are hosting.
I encourage anyone who may be interested in making changes to their Medicare Part D prescription drug plan or their Medicare Advantage plan to contact CLAIM at 1-800-390-3330 or by email at claimcallcenter@primaris.org. You also can visit the CLAIM website at www.missouriclaim.org for more information. The annual enrollment period runs from Oct. 15 to Dec. 7.
