Sgt. Brian Wilson has developed quite a reputation as a “super plunger.” Once again he will lead a team who enters the water once each hour for a 24 hour period beginning Friday, Jan 28th at noon.  That’s right, these dedicated souls spend 24 plus hours at Longview Lake in freezing temperatures, and a great deal of that time WET.  For Brian the knowledge that “the valiant effort warms the hearts of thousands of athletes who have the opportunity to train and compete in year round sports,” keeps him warm.  Brian also has a reputation as the top fund raiser for this event.  His goal for 2011 is $15,000 and he has several events planned leading up to the actual Plunge.

Tuesday, January 18, Jerry’s Bait Shop will donate 10 percent of sales to the Super Plunge.

Saturday, January 22 will be a special Freezin’ for a Reason Ride. The fun starts at Gail’s Harley Davidson (71Hwy/ 150 Hwy) at 11 a.m. Lunch and registration from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The ride will leave Gail’s Harley Davidson at 1:30 p.m. with a police escort. The ride will take the group to the Longview Lake Beach for a group photo. The ride will continue to the Historic Downtown Lee’s Summit area and conclude at Stuey McBrew’s where fun will continue with an auction.

This extreme ride is open to all motorcycles, jeeps, convertibles, hot rods, and anything that you can drive your big heart to help the Special Olympics support the athletes in our area.

Also on January 22, Crossfit Lee’s Summit will be hosting a Athletes 4 Athletes competition.

Tuesday, January 25, Red Door Wine Store is hosting a wine tasting from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a portion of their sales going to Special Olympics.

Every Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday during January, Mirchies is donating a portion of their sales to Special Olympics.
