Suspect Sought for Shooting at Jackson County Deputies is in Custody

Suspect Sought for Shooting at Jackson County Deputies is in Custody

August 6, 2012

On Monday, August 6th, at approximately 3:30 a.m.,
Jackson County Deputies stopped a vehicle in the area of
Raytown and Lane Tree Roads in reference to a traffic violation.    

During the stop, the driver fled the scene striking a deputy sheriff with the vehicle. Deputies then pursued the vehicle and four occupants inside.  

Ultimately, the driver took the vehicle, a white Mitsubishi Galant, down Scenic Drive, a dead end road near 67th Street. As the vehicle stopped, two of the suspects fled the scene on foot, but not before one of the suspects shot toward deputies.

The patrol car was struck, although no one was hurt in the shooting, and two of the four subjects were taken into custody at the scene. They are both 20 year old males from Kansas City, MO and have since been released.

A third suspect, a 21 year old male also from Kansas City, later surrendered to deputies at an apartment in Blue Springs, MO.

Investigators worked throughout the night, and the Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Response Team (SORT) team took a forth suspect into custody early this morning in the area of the 8400 block of Cambridge in Kansas City, MO. He is a 20 year old from Kansas City, MO who has been identified as the shooter,

The names of those involved are being withheld pending charges, and the case is expected to be presented to the Jackson County, MO Prosecutor’s Office today.
